Horticulture Dept Organizes Growers Tour Program


Srinagar, India Nov 19: Seeking to promote private floriculture business in the Valley, the Floriculture Department Kashmir organized a two-day µtour program of growers.

Sheikh Shabir Ahmad, District Floriculture Officer, Srinagar told Greater Kashmir that the program facilitated interaction between growers from Srinagar with their professional counterparts in other districts of J&K.

“The objective of the programme was to boost private floriculture business,” Ahmad added. He said the registered growers from Srinagar district during the program shared their experiences with and learned from their professional counterparts from other districts. He said the visit was conducted under centrally Sponsored Scheme RKVY on Nov 18 and 19. He said the department acted as a facilitator.

Cornell: Flower After Hours Wednesday

Flowers After Hours, an evening tour of the Cornell Plantations, will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday and again on Wednesday, Aug. 19 starting from the patio by the Plantations gift shop.

Enjoy a relaxing stroll through the botanical garden and the quiet serenity of the garden at day’s end. Learn which flowers are at their best after hours, and why their color, foliage or fragrance makes them desirable for the evening garden.

Missouri: Vegetable Tour of Heartland

KIRKSVILLE, MO -- The University of Missouri Extension and the Missouri Vegetable Growers Association will sponsor a tour of Amish vegetable farms and the wholesale auction in Drakesville, Iowa on July 31. Twilight Horticulture Tour scheduled for July 9

The ninth annual Twilight Horticultural Tour will begin at 6:30 p.m. on July 9 at the University of Missouri’s Southwest Research Center two miles west of Mount Vernon.The research center established a new vineyard in 2008 and visitors will be able to see and hear about grape production, varieties, diseases and insects.

Leading the discussion will be Andy Thomas, a research assistant professor with University of Missouri and Patrick Byers, a horticultural specialist with University of Missouri Extension.

Another research project that is underway at the center this summerinvolves ragweed being raised for pollen production. That will be discussed by Ed Browning, a natural resource engineering specialist with University of Missouri Extension.

The tour will leave the Research Center around 7:30 p.m. and drive to the Williams Creek Winery at 310 South Hickory near the square in Mt. Vernon.

Take garden tour through PC

Horticultural expert will be on hand during annual Arts Council fundraiser
The third annual Garden Tour and Tea will take place from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 11.

The tour will begin at the Erie Dearie Park on Perry Street where tour maps can be picked up for participants viewing the nine featured gardens.

The Tour and Tea will benefit the Port Clinton Arts Council under the auspices of the Port Clinton Chamber of Commerce.

Mike Collins, horticulture expert will be available to answer questions regarding flower gardens, shrubs and trees growing in the north central region of Ohio.

With more than 20 years of horticulture experience Collins can assist with garden and landscape design giving major attention to conservation and preservation of natural resources.
Bring questions to the "Ask Mike Booth" after the tour at the Friendship Park on Perry and Jefferson Streets.

Tea and cookies will be served on the lawn of the Erie Dearie Park along with musical entertainment beginning at 1:30 p.m. and concluding at 3:30 p.m.
