Ethiopian Directive Changing Unit of Measurement for Flower Exports Being Tested

The Ethiopian Horticulture Development Agency is testing the draft directive, changing the unit of measurement of exported flowers to weight from stem count, on selected exporters. The testing will be conducted for two weeks as of the 11th of November before the draft directive is passed.

The test aims to identify problem areas in implementing the new directive, explains a letter sent to the seven exporter selected for testing from Desalegn Assefa Director of the Marketing, Research, Study, & Quality Follow-up Directorate.

The test will be conducted alongside the current stem-based measurement to compare the difference between the two systems according to the letter. Companies selected for testing are expected to document the weight and the number of stems of their exports for the testing period.
The companies involved in the test will also be required to employ standard packaging certified by the Ethiopian Conformity Assessment Enterprise responsible for laboratory testing and certification.

Ethiopia Earns $55 Million in Horticulture Exports

The Ethiopian Horticulture Development Agency announced that Ethiopia has earned 55 million US dollars in horticultural exports in the first quarter of this fiscal year.

The revenue was raised from the export of fruits and vegetables as well as flowers and other produce explained the press statement from the agency.

33,000 tonnes of fruits and vegetables as well as 450 million cut flowers were exported in this period.

The revenue raised in this period exceeded the amount raised over the same period in the previous fiscal year.

Flower exports represented more than 44 million US dollars of the revenue obtained from horticultural exports.

Nation secures 151 mln USD from horticulture development

Addis Ababa , July 21 (WIC) - The Ethiopian Horticulture Development Agency announced that the nation has secured 151 million USD from horticulture products exported the past fscal year. Agency Director General, Haileselassie Tekie, told WIC that Ethiopia has supplied 1.3 million cut flowers to the foreign market during the reported period. Acording to the Director General, the revenue obtained during the budget year has shown a 26 million USD increase from that of the preceding year. Read more>

2nd largest flower farm in Ethiopia inaugurated

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - - The second largest flower farm around Woliso town of Oromia State, which is owned by an Indian business company, Surya Blossoms, was officially inaugurated on Sunday.

The farm, which is a sister company of Karuturi Global Company, has already started exporting its products.

At the inaugural ceremony, officials from the federal and regional governments expressed readiness provide all the necessary support to the flower farm.

Trade and Industry Minister, Girma Biru, Oromia State Chief, Abadulla Gemeda, Indian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Gurjit Sing, and Chairman of Karuturi Global Limited, Surya Rao jointly inaugurated the flower farm.
