Tour of Maday's Wholesale Greenhouses

Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service and the Northwest Indiana Floriculture Association will co-sponsor an educational program for people in the nursery and greenhouse business from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10th at Maday's Wholesale Greenhouses.

Maday's Greenhouses is a family owned and operated business specializing in seasonal flowering potted plants and hanging baskets.

"Bring your camera," owner Hank Maday said, "because you will see greenhouses full of poinsettias nearly ready for shipment." Pot mums, garden mums, Easter lilies, geraniums, tulips, and hyacinths fill the greenhouses the rest of the growing season.

The program will begin with a tour of the greenhouses. After the tour, Greg Stack, extension educator with the University of Illinois, will present results from the annual flower trial garden in Lemont, including which varieties were standouts, which ones garnered "Illini Pick" status and which ones finished the season with a standing ovation. "You might find some of these will fit right in to your production schedule for next season," Stack said. Refreshments will be served.

The program is free and registration is not required. For information, call (219) 531-4200 ext. 4201.
