Naturalized Bulb Garden Planting

Naturalizing, as the term implies, is a gardening style which provides a garden view as though Mother Nature had designed it. In the proper location, with time, planted bulbs will multiply and create a spectacular display of flowers. Lightly wooded areas, lawns, and rock gardens are the most popular places for naturalizing.

An article in Fine Gardening by Charles W.G. Smith provides instructions in 5 easy steps on how to plant a naturalized bulb garden:
  1. Scattering the bulbs
  2. Adjust the spacing
  3. Dig In
  4. Add compost
  5. Fertilize

The chart below from the article is a list of bulb candidates for naturalizing, planting guide and corresponding hardiness zones.
