DUNCAN KELBAUGHThe natural world is fascinating. Every detail from the shape of a leaf to the colour of a petal or the song of a sparrow has evolved to help each species compete in this busy world. The height of perennial flowers is no exception. Nature has to weigh the cost of growing taller plants (more energy and materials required and more risk of being knocked or blown down) against the benefits of growing taller than the competition.
