Gung-ho about gardening

With gardens overflowing with healthy, happy flowers and whimsical ball topiaries, she offers hope to those of us whose plants wither rather than flourish. Unlike most gardeners who say they were raised in the dirt alongside their gardening parents, Yon Tyre didn't pick up a trowel until well into adulthood. And her beginnings as a gardener were less than fruitful. "I killed a lot of flowers," she said. Yon worked in a dress shop in Korea until she met Farris Tyre, her husband of 26 years, while he was serving there in the Army. "We lived in a city house when I was young," she said.
