AS SPRING gradually approaches we can already see the shapes of things to come. Everywhere are those brittle, bright-green spikes from hidden bulbs, popping up through grass, dead leaves and garden beds. These apparently tender shoots are amazingly tough when it comes to resisting frosts - in fact they love the cold - but they are very much at risk from anyone walking carelessly over parts of the garden.
