GARDENING: Lilac and blue flowers are her favorites

I am often asked what my favorite plants are and what I grow at home. I struggle to answer because I like to try to grow many plants. Some plants don't always grow, but experimenting is fun for me. My favorite flower is the lilac, but I also like hydrangeas, clematis, dahlias -- anything with blue flowers -- and I love sedums.

Since my interests are so wide-ranging, I will highlight just a few of the plants that I have been able to grow successfully at my house:

Campanulas or bellflowers: These cup or bell-shaped flowers bloom mid-June to September and grow in well-drained soil and full to part sun. There are several varieties ranging from low, mounding plants to tall blooming stalks that can reach three feet in height. They make good cut flowers and can be used in borders, containers or as accent plants. The most common color is a purplish
