Gardener’s project saved by city compromise

The City of Sacramento and gardener Robert Hamm reached a compromise, to save his beloved plants and AIDS fundraising projects this last Monday. Representatives from city councilman Ray Tretheway’s office and a supervisor from the city’s code enforcement division met with Mr. Hamm at his home to review the original neighbor’s complaint and survey the property. Mr. Hamm has faced complaints from neighbors at other homes he has resided in over the last 20 years, but has in general, been well-received by his current neighborhood.

Mr Hamm will continue to hold his $2 plant sale this weekend, as previously advertised. Understandably, he is relieved that he can continue with the spiritual mission he has thrown his life into, the growing and selling of native and rare perennial plants that will do well in the Sacramento region, as both a teaching tool and as fundraisers for those often living at the edges of our society with the live-long health risk of HIV.
