ST. LOUIS (AP) — Plant scientists and doctors in St. Louis are working together on a malnutrition effort they hope will have global results.Three organizations were set Tuesday to announce formation of the Global Harvest Alliance, which will create inexpensive, nutritionally complete food.Dr. Mark Manary (MAN'-uh-ree) of St. Louis Children's Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine is well-known for his work on a fortified, peanut butter-based food widely used overseas to treat severe malnutrition.Manary is now working with scientists from the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center who focus on using biotechnology to add nutritional value to staple crops. They ultimately want to get fortified crops to farmers in parts of Africa and Asia.
