Plantilla Botanic gardens and biodiversity conservation When I first saw the jade vine in the botanic garden of De La Salle-DasmariƱas, I was captivated by its beauty and the vividness of its jade color. The jade vine (Strongylodon macrobotrys) is a native of the tropical forests of the Philippines and its flowers hang in bunches up to 90 cm long. Each clawlike flower is about 7-and-a-half cm long and is pollinated by bats. It is prized in tropical and subtropical gardens for its showy flowers which are a highly unusual blue-green.
